Crugkern Barn - Cot Valley

Inside the Barn

Crugkern Barn is a secluded studio apartment at the head of the Cot Valley.  Although an old building, it has been extensively modernised and is now a homely, comfortable and welcoming rural retreat.  It comprises of two main areas – a larger sleeping, eating, and cooking section leading through to a shower and wash-room.

Chris’s original silk paintings are on the wall and ‘seasonal’ bunting hangs from the ceiling.

Cooking and Eating

The barn has a well appointed kitchen with granite work surfaces and custom-made fused glass splash-back behind the hob.  Cooking is all electric.  The hob is a four-ring induction hob and the oven below is multi-function with all the usual capabilities.  Storage for pots, pans, plates etc. is on shelves, in the drawers and cupboards, and for food the fridge.

To make maximum use of the space chairs for the table are fold-up ones which hang on the wall beside the table.  Tea, coffee, sugar etc. is all provided and there will be fresh home-made bread, butter and Cornish cheese awaiting you on arrival – yum!

Bathroom and Shower

The bathroom has a sink, toilet and shower.  There is plentiful hot water for washing from an immersion heater in the loft and the shower is a new ‘Mira Element’ thermostatic mixer shower which also makes use of this hot water.

Locally made quality toiletries are provided as are towels (*3 per person) and flannels.

The Barn has WiFi which runs off the house superfast-fibre system.

Plastic Free St Just

Both St Just and Penzance promote and encourage reduced and responsible use of plastic.  We see the effects of disposable plastic on a day-to-day basis, in the sea and on the beaches.  We have recently been granted ‘Plastic Free St Just‘ status and do everything we can to minimise the use of non-reusable plastic in both the Barn and our home.  Although we appreciate that it may be impossible to avoid all plastics, we encourage the use of alternatives or re-usable plastic containers whenever feasible.
Chris has knitted cotton dish-clothes for the Barn and the plastic containers for soaps and shampoos in the bathroom are all re-filled rather than replaced.
