Crugkern Barn has its own patio area, with a table and chairs, and gardens which are yours for the duration of your stay. Paths lead up to the ‘Wilderness’ (the land beyond the greenhouse) where there is a seat, peace and quiet and a lovely view. Chris’s seaside mosaic adorns the barn wall, and she is currently working on a slate mosaic representing waves swirling around rocks on the shore. In the outside store is a BBQ, loungers, some body boards, buckets, spades, fishing nets and all sorts of goodies which you may want to take advantage of.
Not only are the loungers comfortable and good to relax on during those hot summer’s days, but they are also brilliant for watching the stunning night skies we get here near the end of the world. The air off the Atlantic is pollution-free, clear and crisp, and, with very little light pollution, we are truly a ‘dark skies area’. The stars are bright, the milky way as clear as a bell and, if you are patient you may easily see shooting stars.
Update: West Penwith is now officially recognised as an International Dark Skies Park, one of only 7 in the UK.
